American Corner (AC) in Uralsk was opened in October 2005 as a partnership between the U.S. Embassy Astana and the West-Kazakhstan Oblast library for Children and Youth named after A. Gaidar.

We offer regular events, such as discussions, watching movies in English, thematic exhibitions, various celebrations, seminars for the English language teachers and many other things. Pupils and students can prepare for different exams (TOEFL, GMAT) and receive information regarding study exchange programs sponsored by the Department of State.

We also organize interesting projects. For example, we implemented a highly interesting project mock “Elections 2008”, where the AC users could receive information about candidates, about their program, about political parties. These “elections” took place at all ACs in Kazakhstan, and the results were shown in the national and local TV and press. Also the ACs’ Christmas Charity project was very successful in Uralsk. Uralsk AC coordinator, Ainagul Salauatova, together with FLEX alumni, Zarina Urazgaleyeva and Valeria Kruglyakova, and active AC users, pupils from local schools, promoted the charity project in the local media and collected various gifts for the local orphanage.
